We want to help guide individuals with mental illnesses, disorders, and struggles toward hope.
We want to help them acquire skills and tools necessary in self-care and self-management.
While we are here to support, we want to help individuals find and build a support network.
We want to take an active role in planning an individual’s care. We want to point them toward healthcare professionals (i.e. doctors, therapists, etc.) that will be able to further their care.
A mental illness DOES NOT define a person. We will reassure an individual of this regularly. While it can be debilitating, the pathology is not the definition of a person.
As stated above, a mental illness does not define the person. We want the individual to believe this. People can lose themselves in their illness, disorder, or struggle. We will help guide them to the rediscovery of personal identity.
Struggling with debilitating effects of mental illness or struggling with identity, these can affect decision making on a daily basis. We want to help create ways an individual can persevere through the struggle and make conscious decisions in their recovery.
We do not want individuals to feel isolated or that their only option is to isolate. We want to guide them toward community. Whether it be a church, parent groups, neighborhood groups, volunteering at local shelters/food pantries, and more, there is a place for anyone and everyone to participate.
Living life with a mental illness, disorder, or struggle can be difficult, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth living. We want to help individuals develop a meaningful life. We want to see them reach goals, overcome the barrier and opposition that is mental illness, and better manage their symptoms. YOU BELONG HERE!
Healing is not linear. We are not a cure-all or a quick fix. We Go On is not about fixing people, it is about loving people. Loving people is our calling. We want you to know that this journey of healing is a process. Don't believe the lie that you cannot recover. It may be long, it may be difficult, and it may be frustrating. But one thing that Marcelo & Mary-Liz have learned is:
Trust the Process!
